Frequenty Asked Question / Technical Problems

  1. I’m having trouble listening. What’s wrong?

Unfortunately, we can’t come to you and make sure you’re set up correctly, but we can give you a checklist for common problems:

    • Do you have a player installed? You may need to reinstall your player, or download a more recent version.

    • Are your speakers plugged in and turned on? You may also want to check the volume settings.

    • When’s the last time you cleaned up your temporary internet files? Your computer stores pages you view on the internet in a special folder for quick viewing later. You may want to do a little cleaning:

      • For Internet Explorer: Select “Internet Options” from the Tools menu. In the dialog box that opens, select “Delete Files” under Temporary Internet Files. Then check “delete offline content” and click OK.
      • For Netscape: Select the Edit Menu, then "Preferences." In the Preferences dialog, click the + sign beside the topic "Advanced" in the left-hand window, the click "Cache" below that. You will then see two buttons, the "Clear Memory Cache" button and the "Clear Disk Cache" button. Click them both.

    • How’s your internet connection? It may be slow or inconsistent. You can check your speed by clicking here. Keep in mind that your connection speed may be slower during peak hours and this may affect your ability to listen to Batanga. You may want to try listening again at another time.

  2. Why does the music break up while I am tuned in to Batanga?

There are several reasons why the music may break up while you are tuned into Batanga.  To fix the problem you will want to:

    • Check your internet connection.  Make sure you are connected at or above 33.6 Kbps (Cable modem, DSL, and Office users don't need to worry about this one).

    • Check your computer and make sure you have the latest version of either Windows Media Player or Real Player installed.

      • The reason the music seems to break up is because the radio player you use "buffers" the stream before it plays it.  Buffering basically starts listening a few seconds before music starts playing, so if your connection gets interrupted you don't get the "skipping" problem.  When the music does break up it is because the music that you hear has caught up to the player's "silent listener" and must wait until a suitable gap is reached again so the music can resume.

  3. Why doesn't the playlist refresh after every song?

Since your media player buffers what you hear, what you are actually hearing is delayed.  This delay varies based on your connection speed and quality, which media player you use, and other factors.  For this reason, song information may not be completely synchronized with the music at all times or for all listeners.
