Juan Gabriel / Inocente de ti
(BMG) by Mariela Perez-Simons Juan Gabriel hadn’t released a studio recording since his 1998 mega hit album, Abrázame muy Fuerte. But that didn’t mean he kept quiet. During those five years the single from that CD was recorded in almost every Latin style: bachata, cumbia, salsa, dance, etc. Now, with the warm ghost of Abrázame muy Fuerte still floating around, he releases Inocente de Ti. In it, the “Divo de Juares” shows off his talent as songwriter and his ability to switch styles. He effectively changes from the love songs (“Inocente de ti,” “Yo Te Recuerdo”) that remind us of his beginning, to the contemporary ranchera “Loco Enamorado,” to the upbeat pop “Como te Quiero mi Amor,” to the modern blues “Amor Profundo,” to the flamenco-flavored “Idilio,” and to the groovy 50’s mambo style “Amándote.” At barely 10 tracks the album is a handful because of its variety. |
