Marc Anthony / Amar Sin Mentiras
(Sony Discos)
By Ramiro Burr

Singer-songwriter Marc Anthony records his first Latin pop material on Amar Sin Mentiras / Love without lies.
Standouts include the dramatic and anthemic "Ahora Quien / Now Who," where Anthony wails away on a where-are-you-now
lament. He describes the risks sometimes necessary in finding romantic happiness on "Valio La Pena / It was worth it."
"Escapemonos / Let's escape," is an underwhelming duet with Jennifer Lopez. But on the Valio La Pena CD,
Anthony gets back to the basics, rewarding his fan base by recording energized salsa versions of the "Amar / To Love" tunes. "Lamento Borincano,"
the folk-salsa standard by legendary Puerto Rican songwriter Rafael Hernandez, is the only new track.
The other seven are horn-fueled, percussion-heavy retakes.
