Los TexManiacs
Tex-Mex Groove
(Vista Media)

by Ramiro Burr
01 May 2006

This San Antonio-based quartet, led by Max Baca on bajo sexto and David Farias on accordion, is known for their spicy blend of country, conjunto, folk and Tejano. And that’s exactly what the TexManiacs mix up on their latest CD, playing familiar tunes including Mexican classics (“Cielito Lindo,” “Cerca del Mar”), country (“Hey Good Lookin’”) and rock and roll (“Hey Baby,” “She’s About a Mover”). Adding a little extra flavor is an impressive list of special guests including Augie Meyers, Flaco Jimenez, and Ruben Ramos who guests on “Esperando Tu Querer.” And then there’s Los Lobos’ Steve Berlin on saxophone, Cesar Rosas on vocals and guitars, and David Hidalgo on drums on the Sir Douglas Quintet classic “She’s About a Mover.” (Ramiro Burr)
